Winter Wedding Real Couple - Kate & Luke

The beauty of Calgarian winters, are the gorgeous sun-kissed days offering warm rays and bright light to crisp cold temperatures. On February 15th, 2018 we welcomed the wonderful Kate and Luke into our space, a day which saw the sun shine strong and bring warmth to a -10 day on Lake Bonavista. Their intimate wedding consisting of 60 guests, was a beautiful event complimented by the snow-covered outdoors.

Why did you choose The Lake House as your winter wedding venue?

Our perfect wedding needed to have good food and wine, so we were looking for a restaurant to hold our reception. Once we saw some photos of previous weddings at the Lake House we knew we had found the perfect venue. The Lake House has a wonderful ambiance for a winter wedding with the roaring fire and candle light.

Did you hire a wedding planner or use our inhouse events team?

We used the inhouse event team. Kristen was amazing to work with!

Did you use the Lake House in house pastry team? Tell us about that experience. We used the in house pastry team. They were amazing to work with, all we had to do was send a picture of a cake we liked. My florist then provided some pretty blooms to add to the cake.

Kate, what number one piece of advice would you give a bride planning her wedding during the winter months?Find a fashionable way to stay warm while taking outdoor photos. Wear fun boots and a glamorous fur shawl! Also allow plenty of time to get to the ceremony to allow for tough road conditions. We did our photos before the ceremony, this meant we could fully relax and enjoy the wedding once we arrived at the Lake House for the ceremony.

Luke, do you have any advice for grooms embarking on the wedding planning process?

Make sure you try all the different cake and frosting combinations at your tasting! They are all delicious.

What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?

Our ceremony was the most memorable part of the day. We had a string quartet play us down the aisle, a roaring fire while we said our personalized vows and a light sabre arch to walk through at the end.

What was the best part about having your wedding in the winter?

We had a lot of visitors from the UK and Ireland so it was great for them to come see Calgary in a different season. Also having a winter wedding meant it was easier to book our preferred vendors as they had more availability. I also loved having snowy wedding photos.

Would you recommend a winter wedding for other couples?

Yes we would definitely recommend a winter wedding. It was so romantic and it ensured our wedding would be memorable and a little bit different.
