We have put this list together of 10 wedding trends we are expecting to see more of as the year goes on. If you are planning your 2023 or 2024 wedding, consider incorporating some of these ideas to your special day!

1. Intimate Ceremonies

Is your dream wedding a small intimate affair with just your loved one and close family? A mid-sized ceremony might be for you. Smaller weddings are traditionally more affordable and intimate. The Lake House is the perfect place to host your medium sized ceremony for weddings of 150 people or less. When you book your wedding at The Lake House, you have the option to rent out our entire Bonavista Dining Room for a mid-sized wedding ceremony for up to 150 guests, or just our Private Dining Room for intimate affairs for under 40 guests.

2. Whimsical Décor

In the past few years, we have seen a large growth in whimsical, bohemian, and rustic wedding décor. The Lake House is the perfect wedding backdrop for these styles because our venue is very customizable. From our gorgeous stone fireplace to our antler chandeliers, there is so much room for customization in all rooms. Deck out the fireplace in candles or beautiful florals, line your tables with staple centerpieces, and so much more!

3. Non-Traditional Guest Book

Guest books have been a long-standing tradition in the wedding industry. There is nothing better than reading sweet gestures or notes from loved ones at your wedding. In recent years, couples are choosing to be more creative with their guest books. Some popular new ways to record messages from loved ones is through messages on the back of polaroid photos, voice messages on old-fashioned telephones, messages on postcards, signing a photo or welcome sign, or signing a Jenga piece as seen here.

4. Colourful Flowers

After a long period of seeing minimal traditional coloured flowers and centerpieces, colour is starting to make a comeback. More couples are choosing to incorporate pops of colour in their wedding bouquets and décor. Popular flower colours include pinks, browns, blues, reds, oranges, and yellows. Incorporate these fun-coloured flowers in your cake, table centerpieces, and around the fireplace at The Lake House. There is endless designs and combinations to ensure your wedding is unique.

5. Mid-Day Ceremony

According to Vouge, mid-day wedding ceremonies and receptions are on the rise. Having an earlier ceremony and reception will allow you and your new spouse to have more time together to enjoy your special day! The Lake House offers full day wedding packages as well as lunch and evening packages. Whenever you are hoping to say ‘I Do’ we will have a timeslot perfect to fit your schedule.

6. Over the Top Cakes or Cake Toppers

The décor on your wedding cake can really help tie in your wedding theme at the venue. Wedding experts are saying the minimalist aesthetic we have seen for wedding cakes over the past few years is turning in a new direction for 2023. More couples are choosing to incorporate more colour in their wedding designs and the cakes are reflecting this. Here at The Lake House, our pastry chef offers a wedding cake add on package for our couples getting married on site. Skip the hassle of bringing your cake the day of the wedding and have it already waiting for you when you arrive.

7. Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses

Traditionally, it was common to see all bridesmaids in the same colour and style of dress. In 2022 we saw a lot more mismatched dresses that followed a similar style or colour palette. This trend is predicted to continue in the coming years as it allows the bridesmaids to pick colours and shapes that showcase their personalities. The most popular colours on trend are neutral browns and earthy tones such as oranges, greens, blues, pinks, etc.

8. Statement Aisle & Entrance

Your ceremony aisle will be your first big appearance to your guests and partner. How the aisle looks and feels will be showcased in emotional wedding photos. In 2023, experts are saying statement aisle décor and entrances will be a big trend in the years to come. According to Vouge, some brides are opting to walk halfway down the aisle solo before being greeted by their mother or father. This entrance requires a longer aisle and sets the tone for a memorable ceremony. At The Lake House there are several ways couples can enter the ceremony making it a more personalized experience than some other traditional wedding venues.

9. Candid Natural Looking Photos

Wedding photography styles have changed heavily over the last decade. Traditionally, couples chose to have lots of unnatural posed wedding photos. In recent years, we have seen photography change to a candid style with natural light. The purpose of candid style photos is so the photographer can capture the day with minimal interruption or direction. Another popular style we have seen is the blur-motion photography to capture movement. Here at The Lake House, there are so many photo opportunities both inside and outside to help showcase your big day.

10. A Private Last Dance

End your special day by scheduling a private dance to soak up all the memories together. Couples sometimes spend years planning their big day only to see it speed by on the actual day. Scheduling a private dance at the end of the night will help you take in all the moments from the day and take in the magic of this milestone in your lives. The Lake House has the perfect Private Dining Room for your final dance together.
